    Hiker bitten by rabid raccoon in Pike County

    EYEWITNESS NEWS (WBRE/WYOU) — A hiker visiting the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation was bitten by a rabid raccoon.

    According to the National Park Service, the hiker was bitten on March 14 on the McDade Recreational Trail between the Bushkill access and the Valley View Campground in Lehman Township, Pike County.

    Search for missing woman in Monroe County

    The raccoon later tested positive for rabies.

    Anyone who may have had contact with was bitten or attacked by a wild animal in the park is asked to call 570-426-2457.

    what gets me and I've lived in that area my whole life how come the person let this raccoon get close enough to bite them must not be educated enough when it comes to animals in the woods and trails that are covered with animals think twice before you touch or let a wild animal near you
