WATCH: Tornado warning issued in Luzerne County

EYEWITNESS WEATHER (WBRE/WYOU) — The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning across northeastern Luzerne County.

According to the National Weather Service around 5:27 p.m., a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located over Sugar Notch near Wilkes-Barre moving East at 40 mph.

Officials state they are urging residents to take shelter in a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building.

If you are outside in a mobile home or vehicle, move to the closest shelter and protect yourself from flying debris, officials note.

The NWS has issued the warning until 6:00 p.m.
