Man accused of chasing woman with machete

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Police say a man upset over an air conditioner chased a woman with a machete in Scranton.

According to the Scranton Police Department, on July 27 officers were called to North Summer Avene in Scranton for a report of a man threatening someone with a knife.

Once on the scene, officers said they spoke with a woman who said Kevin Whitford, 70, of Scranton, argued with her about an air conditioner.

The argument continued to the point where Whitford was holding a machete over his head following the victim around the house, as stated in the affidavit.

The victim claimed that there had been times when Whitford was physically and mentally abusive, according to court documents. Officers noted the victim provided them with a picture of Whitford with the Machete above his head.

Whitford was charged with assault, harassment, and making terroristic threats. He remains in the Lackawanna County Prison on a $10,000 bail.
