Pittston woman participates in ‘Supermarket Spree’

WRIGHT TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A lucky Luzerne County woman went on the grocery run of a lifetime this morning; scoring carts filled with free food!

It’s all thanks to the WBRE 28 and WYOU 22 Weis Markets Supermarket Spree.

Amanda Myrkalo of Pittston is the “Supermarket Spree” winner who dashed down the aisles of Weis Markets in Wright Township Wednesday morning, collecting her winnings. She entered the sweepstakes earlier this summer on pahomepage.com.

“I am pretty happy about it. I did not expect to get this, and it was the nice icing on the cake to get selected and be able to reduce grocery costs this year, especially with how everything is,” said Myrkalo.

Myrkalo came ready with a strategy and the support of her dad, sister, and Weis employees cheering her on.

“I have actually visited the store ahead of time to kind of check out some of the stuff and also mentally be like what would I use versus I want to grab anything that’s shiny,” says Myrkalo.

During the two-minute shopping spree, she grabbed more than 1,500 worth of meat, canned goods, dog food, and batteries.

With so many options, Myrkalo says the two minutes felt like two seconds.

“You sit here and you’re like, okay, like what’s most expensive? And you’re like, everything. I could hit up any of these aisles and be saving myself tons of money this year, and it’s just gonna help out,” stated Myrkalo.
