LEHMAN TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — After 65 years, a long-standing fire company in Luzerne County is moving.

The Idetown Volunteer Fire Department is now located on Firehouse Road in Lehman Center taking over the former Lehman Township Firehall, which had been sitting vacant for several years.

Officals say this move will make it safer for firetrucks and ambulances to exit of the facility.

“We have we have had nothing but support left and right from the community. Between Facebook comments, between people coming to see the new place. They couldn’t wait to see us again. They can’t wait to see the new building,” said Idetown Fire Company Treasurer and Fire Police member Cindy Blaine.

The fire company will host a breakfast on September 1 and plans to hold an official opening ceremony on a later date, once the move is fully completed.
