AVOCA, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — TSA officers at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport reported a gun was seized from luggage on Thursday.

Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officers intercepted a .380 caliber handgun loaded with six bullets at the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport checkpoint on August 15.

The weapon was caught as the man, a resident of Harveys Lake, entered the security checkpoint. The X-ray unit alerted the firearm among his carry-on items.

Officers said the man claimed he forgot he had his loaded gun with him.

The man is now facing a financial penalty, penalties for carrying weapons can reach a maximum of $15,000.

It was the third firearm that TSA officers have detected at the airport checkpoint this year.
