PITTSTON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A new community center is about one month away from officially opening its doors to the public, offering support for people with intellectual disabilities.

NEPA Inclusive is the organization behind this initiative. They are focused on providing students with first-hand job experience.

These centers create a safe environment where students can develop essential life skills.

Their focus is on students between the ages of 14 and 21 from local high schools.

The program helps students break free from their desks and become more social, all with the guidance of dedicated staff.

“The students that come to our Transition Academy Social Club are really excited about that program, it’s a fun social club. They do have some interaction with the coffee shop, so from time to time they can get a smoothie. They can get behind the coffee bar and see how that works,” said PA Inclusive President and CEO Frank Bartoli.

The program has successfully connected around nine individuals with job opportunities, thanks to funding from private donations and grants.
