CLIFFORD TOWNSHIP, SUSQUEHANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Heavy rainfall Sunday night caused flood warnings across NEPA, and one township in Susquehanna County is now dealing with the aftermath.

Clifford Township in Susquehanna County took a direct hit during Sunday’s torrential downpour.

The downtown area in Clifford Township was swamped with so much water that multiple rescues had to be carried out from houses and businesses.

One local business, Clifford Beverage, was particularly hard hit, with flash floodwaters rushing towards the shop so quickly that a foot of water was able to push ice coolers right up against the doors, blocking the entry and trapping people inside.

“I got trapped outside, my husband was inside, so the coolers went all the way against the door there, and I couldn’t get in, so they had to rescue me, those people, my husband, and everybody. The one room my husband moved everything cause that one got flooded, but flooded with all the mud. We’re just mopping and mopping and mopping,” Clifford Beverage owner Tammy Kohinsky said.

Kohinsky says luckily despite the mud, they didn’t lose any product and this flooding has caused the whole town to come together and help each other out. Clean-up efforts are underway from both residents and PennDOT.
