(WHTM) — Some of Pennsylvania’s wildland firefighters are back in the Keystone State after battling flames out west.

They returned home around 10 a.m..

The firefighters are either part of the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Bureau of Forestry or a participating volunteer fire department.

They help so many out west, but officials say they’re also learning skills they can use here at home.

“They learn, they get the right qualifications, and it helps train them so they’re ready to go when there’s a big fire in Pennsylvania,” Seth Castle, DCNR Bureau of Forestry director, said.

Over 100 crew members have been sent out west this wildfire season and DCNR expects to send more.
