PLAINS TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A 70-year-old Luzerne County man is speaking out after being left for dead along a busy highway as the victim of a hit and run.

It happened in Plains Township last Friday night as the man rode his electric bike.

Man charged in hit-and-run death of motorcyclist

The hit-and-run happened right here at the intersection of Route 315 near the intersection with East Main and Jumper Road 70-year-old Ronald Skiro says he can’t believe that someone would hit him and just drive away, leaving him for dead along the road.

How could you know you hit someone and just drive away and not render assistance? You know for all the law of averages I should have been dead,” said Skiro.

Skiro says he was riding his electric bike heading home at around 9:00 p.m. last Friday. When suddenly he was struck down you could see the damage to his bike the rear wheel was bent.

Did you know did you see any cars or any vehicles what do you know? asked Mehalshick.

“I got hit from behind all I know is I got hit lights out. I’m in the hospital,” answered Skiro.

Someone driving by called 9-1-1-. He suffered a head injury as well as bruises and lacerations. He says doctors told him he could have been killed.

“When you woke up in the hospital what did you think? I mean you blacked out what did you think?,” asked Mehalshick.

“I didn’t know what to think to be honest with you. Like what am I doing here?,” answered Skiro.

Butchie Lispi owns an auto repair shop near the intersection. He says this highway is always busy and dangerous.

“The traffic is so heavy on the highway anymore. It’s not like it was in the olden days. You have a lot of people riding bikes going back and forth,” stated Lispi.

    As Plains Township Police investigate.

Skiro has this message for the hit-and-run driver.

“Well, whoever hit me he or she of course you realized you hit me at least you could have had the common courtesy to render assistance instead of driving off. I’m thankful I’m alive,” added Skiro.

Plains Township Police say the investigation is ongoing but they have not said if they have any possible suspect vehicle.

We do know that they have been checking video from security in this area. If you have any information about this hit and run you are urged to call Plains Township Police.

just heard about this..it's terrible that a person who hit Mr Skiro didn't even stop unless they had something to hide..in any event I've lived in the area for years and know it's a bad traffic spot.. thank God you were not killed ..my prayers are with you for your speedy recovery..you are in my prayers. God bless.
