WEST PITTSTON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The man missing out of Luzerne County is recovering in the hospital after being missing for over 48 hours.

After a two-plus day search for Paul Kasson, he was found Wednesday night on the Pittston City side of the Susquehanna River by a couple who says they sensed an urge to go looking for the West Pittston man.

It’s the happy ending everyone was hoping for.

Paul Kasson of West Pittston was found alive Wednesday around 8:00 p.m. and transported to a nearby hospital after missing for more than two days.

“We’re happy that he’s okay,” Paul’s sister Barbara Sobeck said.

“It is a happy ending. Thank you all for the love and prayers,” said Patricia Murphy, Paul’s sister.

A couple from out of the area who heard about Kasson being missing say they felt compelled on Wednesday to help in the search. They even had an idea of where to look.

“Something told me to check the rivertrail, and so I asked people and they said they searched it but I went down there anyway so we went down the rivertrail and found the walker in the bushes and we located him about 20 feet over the embankment. We were just driving down the road saying how crazy would it be if we actually found him, and then we did,” said Jeremy Rose, who helped locate Kasson.

Kasson is diabetic and did not have his medication with him, making the search even more urgent.

Rose says he was disoriented when they found him.

“There’s other factors that play into this with his health issues. There were other factors that caused for great concern of Mr. Kasson,” said Wyoming Regional Police Department Chief Michael Turner.

Wyoming Area Regional Police say Kasson went for a walk on Monday around 1:30 p.m. and that’s when he went missing.

An aerial and ground search from the Wyoming Area Regional Police Department, Pennsylvania State Police, and other agencies began instantly and continued into tuesday night.

“It was a great cooperative investigation with multi-emergency services that came together hoping for the ending that exactly happened,” Chief Turner explained.

On Wednesday the search continued with a cadaver dog brought in from Hershey and crews from German Hose Company Dive Team and West Pittston Fire Department searching the water.

“I just want to say thank you to the community who has been reaching out, to the police departments involved and to the two wonderful people who found my brother,” Murphy stated.

Kasson is recovering Wednesday night at Geisinger Hospital and will soon be reunited with his family.
