NANTICOKE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — We’re just a couple of weeks away from National Hispanic Heritage Month but one restaurant in Luzerne County is already starting the celebration.

The stove tops are hot and the birria tacos are getting loaded at Picosita Tacos in Nanticoke.

Plated with Mexican flags, homemade salsa, and fresh cilantro; the family behind the shop keeps its recipe secrets.

Manuel, Efrain, Victoria, and Marisol are the brains behind the operations. Before National Hispanic Heritage Month they wanted to share their culture with the whole city.

“I’m from Mexico, my husband’s from Ecuador, I have friends that are from the Dominican Republic,” . . . “It’s just nice to get a lot of people together and share their backgrounds and we’ll put it all together,” says Marisol.

That’s what led to planning the first Hispanic heritage event at the square on Broad Street set for Saturday.

“We can enjoy all cultures, all kind of people,” says Manuel.

They were a little hesitant when they first got the idea.

“When my daughter first mentioned it to me, I was like ‘eh, I don’t know,” but now that she’s been excited about it, I’m so happy that she’s you know doing it for a community,” says Victoria.

Now more than a dozen other businesses are also getting in on the fun. Bringing in music, entertainment – and more delicious food.

The family at the shop excited to share their heritage with the community. Ready to satisfy all tastebuds.

“My culture is the food, people, and candies,” says Victoria.

The first Hispanic heritage event at Nanticoke Square will take place on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
