    Section of PA Turnpike set to close in Luzerne County

    EYEWITNESS NEWS (WBRE/WYOU) — Pennsylvania Turnpike officials announced that part of the PA Turnpike will be closed this weekend.

    According to the release, a section of the Northeast Extension (Interstate 476) will be closed during the early morning hours of Sunday, August 25 to allow for beams to be placed as part of a bridge replacement project.

    Officials say the Northeast Extension will be closed in both directions between the Pocono (Exit 95) and the Wyoming Valley (Exit 115).

    Officials note the work is expected to be completed by 6:00 a.m.

    The following detours will be in place for Northeast Extension travelers:

    • Northbound at Pocono
      • I-80 West 16.8 miles
      • I-81 North 23.6 miles
      • PA Route 315 North 0.3 miles
      • Re-enter at Wyoming Valley Interchange
    • Southbound at Wyoming Valley
      • PA Route 315 South 1.4 miles
      • I-81 South 23.7 miles
      • I-80 East 16.8 miles
      • Re-enter at Pocono Interchange

    The following detours will be in place for those who would enter at Wilkes Barre (Exit 105):

    • Northbound detour
      • PA 115 Route North 4.1 miles
      • I-81 North 4.6 miles
      • PA Route 315 North 0.5 miles
      • Enter at Wyoming Valley Interchange
    • Southbound detour
      • PA Route 115 South 15.8 miles
      • I-80 West 7.0 miles
      • Enter at Pocono Interchange
