SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A man was arrested after officers say he threatened a woman with a crossbow, leading to a standoff with Scranton police.

According to the Scranton Police Department, officers were called to Watson Street Wednesday night for a woman requesting a PFA (Protection From Abuse) order.

Police said they learned a man, identified as David Smith, 41, was at the house and threatening the woman with a crossbow.

As stated in the release, Smith fled the house and barricaded himself at a different residence on East Elm Street. Police say they confronted Smith outside the home where he was shot with bean bag rounds before retreating back inside.

A standoff took place but eventually ended after police said they used “special tools and tactics” to get Smith to surrender.

Smith was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, terroristic threats, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct.

A crossbow, Hmmm. I'm guessing the guy had previous charges against him, not allowing him to have firearms.
