Man accused of trying to lure woman into woods, threatening family

SUNBURY, NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A man is being charged after police say he threatened the parents of a woman he tried to lure into the woods.

According to the Sunbury Police Department, on August 28 around 3:30 p.m., officers were called to the 500 block of Race Street for a report of a suspicious man following a woman.

Police stated the man, later identified as Austin Smith, 26, tried to lure the victim into the woods, exposed himself, and threatened the family members of the victim with a knife.

Officers said Smith also made threats of returning to the victim’s home to assault a 14-year-old family member who confronted Smith during the incident.

Smith fled the scene and was later arrested and charged with indecent exposure, open lewdness, and terroristic threats.
