PLAIN TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The carnival fun came to veterans for free on Sunday.

The Wilkes-Barre VA Medical Center hosted the event for vets who call the VA community living center home and for those in the VA’s in-patient units.

Some of the carnival-themed attractions included a pie in the face, frog hop, and bushel basket toss.

The carnival is held each year to show veterans how much they are appreciated for their service and sacrifices.

Organizers say it’s heartwarming to see the veterans having a good time.

“It’s a great day we also, we invite their caregivers. We invite their families. We want them to have a wonderful day on site to enjoy the festivities like I said everything here is donated so it’s just a wonderful activity for them to see that the public really appreciates them and everything that they’ve done and it gives the public the opportunity to get back to them,” said Chief of the Center of Development and Civic Engagement VA Medical Center Amie O’Malia.

The veterans also got goodie bags to take home.
