Scranton young voters eager for upcoming presidential debate

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The first presidential debate between Former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris will take place Tuesday and 28/22 News was in Scranton with what some people are hoping to hear.

Many young voters in Scranton are looking forward to hearing how the candidates will address critical issues while maintaining a civil debate.

Young voters in Scranton are eager for this fresh matchup between Vice President Harris and Former President Trump.

“After seeing what’s been going on for the past few months is going to be a little hectic but I think there’s going to be a lot of new things coming up a lot of old things, going to be a lot of energy,” said Pocono Mountains resident Caroline L.

Some voters want a civil and informative debate to gain a good perspective on each candidate’s plan if elected.

“I wanna see if Trump has any new ideas over what he wants to do, especially since he hasn’t been in office in four years, and of course, if Kamala elected, she’d be the first woman president, and I wanna see if she has any ideas on just anything to improve our country, something that we haven’t been able to see,” said Ilena Zaltanovska from New Jersey.

Others want to hear more specific and pressing topics that our nation is facing.

“Most importantly for me personally I think that national security and foreign policy are very important to me and I think that both sides have very interesting things to say. So I just really want to, I’m really interested in that, and I’m excited to hear about that,” said Scranton resident Elisha Desouza.

“Definitely inflation, the cost of living in general everything from gas to food to overall everything that’s something I’d definitely love to see spoked about,” Caroline explained.

But there’s also a sense of skepticism among some voters, unsure if Tuesday’s debate will bring any new perspectives or just more of the same rhetoric.

“Honestly me specifically I don’t have specific topics I wanna hear but I definitely just want it to be progressive and not like a roast session during the whole thing,” said Christina Pinerre from New Jersey.

“No, yeah, something that actually gets somewhere, and respectful, yeah, I just really wanna know like genuinely what’s going to happen no like lies or anything just really what their plans are for the future,” said New Jersey resident Emily Olson.

The Presidential Debate begins on Tuesday at 9:00 p.m .

Afterward, both Harris and Trump will head back onto the campaign trail.
