HUNLOCK CREEK, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A local Boy Scouts Eagle Scout project is getting him more attention than he expected and that’s a good thing.

Vincent Mumma is a member of Boy Scout Troop 418 in Hunlock Creek. He was looking for an Eagle Scout project. He saw a local veterans memorial that needed some freshening up and found the perfect project. His inspiration was someone who had quite an impact on his life.

“I did it mostly for my grandfather. He served the Vietnam and Germany, so doing this made me like remember him a lot it was a lot of fun for everyone else and the church,” stated Mumma.

The memorial sits in front of his home church in Hunlock Creek, Muhlenberg Methodist Church where he’s been a member of his whole life.

“What it looked like before it was just like run down the plaque everything was all green mushy um flowers like roots, growing everywhere and stuff messed up flagpole destroyed,” explained Mumma.

He had a crew of 12 people helping him complete the project and they got it done in four hours.

“The church funded it all the church was really helpful on everything so if it wasn’t for the church, I don’t think this would’ve been possible,” continued Mumma.

He hopes this serves as an inspiration to others in the community who stop by to take look.

“I hope it like sparks good mind that someone really cares about this and like brings joy to someone that’s what I really hope for to do,” said Mumma.

Vincent says his family was very proud of him and they were all shocked at all the positive feedback he is receiving for his good deed.

“We weren’t expecting how big it to have an impact we were expecting it to just like be done and the church be grateful and some people in the committee to be grateful,” expressed Mumma.

Vincent says after high school he wants to work at the local power plant as a nuclear power machine operator.

As good as it looks Vincent has one more finishing touch, he is having some students at the Wilkes-Barre Area Vo-Tech make a plaque that will go on the bench.
