Market Street Bridge open after deadly crash

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The Market Street Bridge and River Street in the area of the bridge was closed for hours, causing major traffic delays as police investigated a deadly crash Tuesday afternoon.

The Wilkes-Barre City Police Department confirmed with 28/22 News the crash has turned deadly and the victim’s identity has not been released at this time.

Officials confirm with 28/22 News authorities were called to the intersection of Market Street and River Street shortly before 5:15 p.m.

28/22 News was on the scene after police taped off part of the intersection of Market and River Street Tuesday afternoon where a mangled bicycle laid in the middle of River Street and a vehicle with a smashed windshield.

As 28/22 News was approaching the scene, they saw an ambulance take off from the area.
