WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Luzerne County officials invited lawmakers to the area to assure them the county’s election system is one that can be trusted.

The Luzerne County Manager, Romilda Crocamo, reached out to the national, state, and local Republican and Democratic Chairs to assure them one thing they can count on Luzerne County to do the right thing this election season.

Crocamo sent out six letters on Wednesday. Two were sent to the Republican and Democratic National Committee chairs, two to the state Republican and Democratic National Committee Party Chairs, and two to the local Republican and Democratic Party Chairs.

“I want them to see what we are doing,” Crocamo stated.

Crocamo wants to hold a meeting with the party leaders to lay out the county’s process in this election, how voter registration is shaping up, and the security measures that are being taken.

“So that they can assure their constituents we are doing what we are supposed to do,” Crocamo explained.

Luzerne County is a focal point in this election and Crocamo wants party leaders and voters to feel confident in election efforts taking place here.

“I want people to know that they can trust our system and the results,” Crocamo added.

In the November 2022 election, there was a paper shortage at some polling places which delayed the vote count in Luzerne County and ultimately led two voters to file a lawsuit against county officials at the time.

Crocamo wants everyone to know those issues are in the past and she’s looking to move the county forward in a more positive direction.

“There are people who want us to fail. People who want me to fail. We are going full steam ahead and we are going to do our jobs and we are going to deliver what we have the full responsibility to deliver and that’s a fair transparent election,” said Crocamo.

Crocamo tells 28/22 News she has even brought in staff from other departments to take daily phone calls so election bureau staff can focus on election tasks.

She says she has heard back from the Luzerne County Republican Chair and awaits the other’s responses.
