Student kidnaps, threatens student in fake check scam, police say

WILLIAMSPORT, LYCOMING COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Police say a Pennslyvania College of Technology (PCT) student has been charged with crimes relating to forgery, kidnapping, and threatening another student.

According to police, Kahsan Youk, 19, posted on Snapchat asking people to contact him if they wanted to make money.

When the victim made contact, Youk demanded the victim’s bank information to deposit a fraudulent stimulus check into the account, that they would then withdraw and split the money

Officials say the victim realized this was a scam, provided an old deactivated bank card, and tried to ignore all contact from Youk.

Later, on September 13, police say Youk approached the victim after a class they had together saying that he had “already paid for the slip” and said he was going to have his “friends from Philly and New Jersey roll up on him”, at which point the victim provided Youk with his bank information.

Police say a check worth $5,643 was deposited into the victim’s bank account three days later from a mobile device that was not the victim’s.

On September 17 around 6:45 a.m. Youk allegedly entered the victim’s room without the consent or knowledge of the victim, stood over the victim in a way that implied he was concealing a weapon, and asked for the victim’s bank pin.

According to police Youk then forced the victim to call the bank and change the pin, and when that did not work Youk forced the victim into driving them to the bank to get a new card. When the victim returned without a new card they allegedly returned to campus and separated.

Later that evening, police say that Youk verbally threatened the victim again.

Authorities later confirmed that the check was fraudulent and that people other than the victim from New Jersey, Philadelphia, and Williamsport had accessed the bank account.

Police say Youk is facing charges of robbery, kidnapping, forgery, and other related crimes.
