DEP releases details after sewage leak into river

SELINSGROVE, SNYDER COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — 28/22 News has an update on the Snyder County sewage line that ruptured pouring hundreds of thousands of gallons of sewage into a creek flowing into the Susquehanna River.

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection says the break happened on Sunday, September 22, near the eastern Snyder County Regional Authority’s Sewage Treatment Plant in Selinsgrove.

As a result, over 459,000 gallons of sewage was dumped into the water.

A new 10-foot pipe has been put in place .

Officials say while the immediate concern has subsided, those entering the river to swim, fish, or boat should check the conditions.
