HAZLE TWP., LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — State police are investigating a fraud incident where a man was scammed out of over $7,000.

According to Pennsylvania State Police, on August 18 troopers were told of a fraud incident that happened in Hazle Township.

The victim, a 79-year-old man, told troopers he got a call from someone he believed was his nephew. The scammer told the victim that he was involved in a DUI crash and needed bail money to get out of jail, PSP stated.

Man allegedly robbed Turkey Hill at gunpoint

Police say the victim withdrew $7,400 from his bank and was told that a courier from “ByeByeDWI.com” would pick up the money at his address.

The victim’s nephew confirmed that he was never arrested for DUI and the person his uncle spoke to was not him.

State police are continuing to investigate.
