EYEWITNESS NEWS (WBRE/WYOU) — Pennsylvania Attorney General Michelle A. Henry has announced that two former Penn State University Students were sentenced for their roles in a 2017 hazing incident.

According to Henry, 28-year-old Brendan Young and 27-year-old Daniel Casey both previously pleaded guilty in July to 14 counts of hazing and a single count of reckless endangerment in the Timothy Piazza hazing case.

The release states Young and Casey were Beta Theta Pi fraternity leaders at the time when they participated and facilitated in the 2017 hazing incident that left sophomore Piazza unresponsive the next morning consuming large quantities of alcohol, Henry said.

Officials say Piazza died days later as a result of multiple falls sustained subsequent to his intoxication.

“Nothing can undo the harm Tim suffered seven years ago nothing can bring Tim back to his family and friends. With the sentences ordered today, the criminal process reached a conclusion,” said Attorney General Henry.

The Piazza family has since passed Pennsylvania legislature, the Timothy Piazza Anti–Hazing Law , which includes a felony-graded offense when serious injury or death results, officials note.

Casey and Young have been sentenced to two to four months in prison (with work release eligibility), followed by three years probation, plus community service, as stated in the release.
