WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A man is dead after a police-involved shooting took place in Wilkes-Barre Sunday morning.

According to the Luzerne County District Attorney’s Office, police were called to a home on Mayer Street in Wilkes-Barre for a domestic violence incident.

The incident involved a woman and her 43-year-old ex-husband who no longer lived in the residence. The man was reported to have left the area and he was found a few blocks away at his residence on Holland Street.

Investigators stated officers found the man yelling on the street and the incident evolved into a shooting, resulting in the man being shot by police and later dying in the hospital from his injuries.

The cause of the death was determined to be from multiple gunshot wounds and the manner of the man’s death remains under investigation, authorities said.

“We’re investigating every aspect of it. We’re doing interviews right now with everyone who is involved or may have been involved so it will be a lengthy thorough investigation for sure,” said PA State Police Public Information Officer Trooper Bill Evans.

The Wilkes-Barre City Police Department has placed officers on administrative leave pending the investigation.

Investigators are not saying if the man was armed or what led to officers opening fire.
