WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — 28/22 News is learning more about Sunday’s fatal officer-involved shooting in Luzerne County.

According to the Luzerne County District Attorney Sam Sanguedolce, the victim was armed with a ghost gun.

The DA says police body camera footage clearly shows the victim pointing a gun at the officers.

“I have reviewed the body camera footage myself and it is somewhat shocking and a little bit scary,” Sanguedolce said.

On Sunday morning, Wilkes-Barre Police responded to a call for a reported domestic disturbance between 43-year-old Omar Jermaine Redditt and his ex-wife at her home, on Mayer Street.

“When they responded they found out that the accused had relocated to a different location, a few blocks away on Holland Street in Wilkes-Barre,” Sanguedolce stated.

There, Sanguedolce says Redditt pulled his gun on police.

A gunfight broke out where Redditt was shot multiple times. He soon died from his injuries.

The gun Redditt used is believed to be a ghost gun.

“The accused had possessed a ghost gun, which is a gun that is untraceable, it’s unserialized,” Sanguedolce explained.

The weapon is currently being examined in a state police forensics lab.

Sanguedolce also says that the prior criminal history of the victim makes it illegal for him to have any weapons in his possession.

“If you’re a person not to possess, you’re ineligible for a license to carry firearms concealed,” Sanguedolce continued.

    The case remains under investigation.

The officers involved are on administrative leave while the investigation is carried out.
