    Suspect hospitalized, house burning after Scranton standoff

    SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — One man was hospitalized and a house was set on fire after a standoff with Scranton police Friday morning.

    Police had closed down a section of Bartel Street, Albright Avenue, and Providence Road as they attempted to get an alleged gunman out of a building.

    Police say the standoff stemmed from a domestic argument that led to gunfire, a female was sent to an area hospital from that initial incident.

    The gunman, later revealed to be 43-year-old Michael Scott Wormuth, allegedly barricaded himself in the house while police surrounded the building. Several shots were fired from the suspect during the altercation.

    Police say towards the end of the standoff, the suspect set the building on fire, then came outside and shot themself. The suspect is reported to have still been breathing when they were taken to the hospital.
