(WHTM)– Midstate residents had the unique opportunity to witness a second cosmic spectacle this month just days after the Aroura Borealis shined over Central Pennsylvania.

This time, the astronomical phenomenon came in the form of a comet. Specifically, comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS, also known as C/2023 A3. According to NASA, C/2023 A3 will remain visible to the naked eye for the next several weeks.

The comet was closest to Earth over the weekend, only 44 million miles from Earth on Saturday. Residents across the Midstate got the opportunity to witness this once-in 80,000-year spectacle.

Rare comet visible in the night sky won’t return for 80,000 years

Here are some of the views of Tsuchinshan-ATLAS from abc27 viewers.
