LAKE CITY, S.C. (WBTW) — Lake City Mayor Yamekia Robinson will conduct a news conference at noon Wednesday at the Lake City Judicial Center to discuss “recent city matters.”

It is unclear what recent city matters the mayor will discuss, but newly appointed Police Chief Emmanuel Williams withdrew his interest in the promotion on Feb. 28.

The reason for Williams’ withdrawal was not immediately available, though his withdrawal came two days after News13 reported that he was fired from the Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office in 2015 over a policy violation.

Williams, a Coker University graduate, is currently a sergeant with Bennettsville police. He was set to take over as Lake City police chief on March 4 and officially be sworn into office in early April.

City Administrator William A. Hall said that the Florence County Sheriff’s Office will continue to manage the police department.

The Judicial Center is located at 202 Kelley Street.
