LITTLE RIVER, S.C. (WBTW) — A Little River man who participated in violence at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, has been released from federal prison, according to the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

Nicholas Languerand, 29, was released on Aug. 6. He pleaded guilty to assault and was sentenced on Jan. 26, 2022, to 44 months in prison by U.S. District Judge John Bates in Washington D.C.

As part of his sentence, he was also ordered to pay $2,000 in restitution and perform 60 hours of community service, according to the Department of Justice. He will continue to have two years of supervised release.

At his sentencing, prosecutors said Languerand “has a pattern of following conspiracy theories into belligerent confrontations with the people around him,” according to CBS News reporter Scott MacFarlane . He’s also been previously accused of making threats, harassment, and stalking in Vermont.

Languerand called himself a patriot and said he would never be involved in anything like this again, according to MacFarlane.

Languerand threw objects, including an orange traffic barrier, at police officers at the Capitol, according to the Justice Department. He also took a police riot shield and used it as he approached officers.
