HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — Authorities on Friday implemented a temporary no-wake zone along a portion of the Intracoastal Waterway in Horry County amid flooding caused by Tropical Storm Debby.

The order from the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources and the U.S. Coast Guard includes the area from Fantasy Harbor Bridge to Bucksport Marina , including Rosewood and Lawson’s landings.

Authorities are placing temporary no-wake zone buoys in the area to ensure compliance. The no-wake zones will remain in effect until at least Aug. 23.

“State and federal authorities determined this emergency order is necessary to protect people, homes, boats, and the marine environment while the Waccamaw River and Little Pee Dee River experience high water from Tropical Storm Debby,” the DNR said in a news release.
