Waccamaw Drive residents in Conway seeing river flooding

CONWAY, S.C. (WBTW) — Residents near Waccamaw Drive in the Conway area are affected by river flooding as the Waccamaw River remains in the major flood stage throughout most of the week.

The flooding has left residents with no way to leave their house unless they choose to use a rowboat to get to and from the main road.

Some people said it’s now been a week since the flooding started, and each day it has continued to rise. Some people have to miss work for the week, some people can’t get to a grocery store and the majority can’t afford to buy a new home.

The river is forecasted to crest at 14.8 feet. One neighbor explained what the aftermath looks like after the flooding.

“This is what we deal with every time”, Conway resident Billie Jo Blake said. “It’s only just a hassle because afterwards when the water leaves, you have to deal with all the stuff that you have to clean up. And you don’t know what’s damaged or not until the water leaves.”

Blake said that she hasn’t seen flooding this bad in about three years, but said it’ll at least be another few weeks until she’s able to go back to her normal lifestyle.
