Intracoastal Waterway’s emergency no-wake zone to continue through August, South Carolina DNR says

HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — A no-wake zone put in place on the Intracoastal Waterway because of flooding after Tropical Storm Debby will remain in effect until Aug. 30, according to the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources.

The emergency order implemented by the DNR and U.S. Coast Guard includes the area from Fantasy Harbor Bridge to Bucksport Marina, including Rosewood and Lawson’s landings.

Local, state and federal authorities will continue patrols to enforce the order, the DNR said on Wednesday.

“State and federal authorities determined this emergency order is necessary to protect people, homes, boats, and the marine environment while the Waccamaw River and Little Pee Dee River experience high water from Tropical Storm Debby,” the DNR said.

As of Wednesday morning , the Intracoastal Waterway remained in moderate flood stage at 16.56 feet. The forecast calls for it to continue falling and to be out of the moderate flood stage on Friday. It will continue to slowly recede into next week.

The Waccamaw River at Conway remains in a major flood stage. It is currently at 14.67 feet and is slowly receding. It will likely remain in major flood stage through Friday before falling into moderate flood stage this weekend.
