BENNETTSVILLE, SC (WBTW) – 2024 begins a new era of Marlboro County Bulldog football. Cory Johnson will begin his 1st season as the new head coach and he has brought his whole staff down from Clinton, NC. Last season his squad advanced to the state championship game. He’s hopeful to turn the Bulldogs program around after going just 3-7 last season.

The Bulldogs have high expectations, in fact they are ranked 10th in Class 3A to begin the season. They’ll be led by Justin Purvis on offense at wide receiver, he’ll also play some running back. On defense, linebacker Kelly Markus and defensive back Jakarrion Kenan (Rutgers commit) will pace the ‘Dawgs on that side of the ball.

Johnson told News13, he’s ready to build a winning culture and a winning attitude on and off the field.

“”I want to build champions in life and that’s what we are here to do and I want to build a culture and a brotherhood that these guys remember for forever.”

2023 record: 3-7, 1-4 in Region 6-3A, did not make the playoffs
Head Coach: Cory Johnson (1st season)
2024 first game: Friday, August 23 at Lake Marion – 7:30pm
