MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) – Good Sunday everyone. We are starting the day with a pleasant change, most of us are seeing clear skies across the area. This is a change from the cloudy starts we have seen since the mid week. A pleasant surprise for those along the coast. Today we will continue to see sunshine build into the area, as a coastal boundary relaxes off the coast. We will still have a very isolated shot of seeing a brief shower this afternoon along the Grand Strand into Georgetown County, but for now we will say it will be less than a 20-30% chance. Temperatures today along the coast will top out in the low to possibly mid 80s. Temperatures inland will reach the upper 80s.

As we head back to school and work, temperatures will continue to climb, and so will the humidity. High pressure to our west will keep the air warm and suppressed making it hard to see any clouds, let alone shower activity. This will continue through mid to late week across both the Pee Dee and Coastal areas. A full blown heat wave will take place over the mid south, we will be on the eastern side of the large expansive high pressure. This means we will get hot, and humid, but temperatures should stay under the triple digits.

Sunny weather will be sticking around through the late week into the the Labor Day, holiday weekend. This also means the early forecast for the Cookout Southern 500 at Darlington Speedway looks to be hot and humid, with low rain chances. As we know though, things can change over the next few days, so keep checking back.

The tropics remain quite across the Atlantic basin. As we are entering the last week of August. Looking towards September, we could start to see the tropics wake up a bit, so we will also keep our eye on that, as we in fact face the peak of Hurricane season.
