ROBESON COUNTY, N.C. (WBTW) — A homicide investigation is underway in Robeson County after an 18-year-old man was found dead early on E. 7th Street Road, Sheriff Burnis Wilkins’ office said.

The body of Damien Colton Chavis of Scotland County was found Thursday morning in the road in the 3500 block of East 7th Street Road outside of Lumberton, the sheriff’s office said.

Authorities believed he was hit by a vehicle, and the sheriff’s office said Friday that its homicide investigators took over the case after a discussion involving the North Carolina State Highway Patrol and the sheriff’s office.

No additional details were immediately available. Anyone with information is asked to call investigators at 910-671-3170.
