FLORENCE, S.C. (WBTW) — A Florence man’s condition remains unknown after first responders treated him for a snake bite early Friday morning, officers said.

EMS responded to the 800 block of Marion Street and took the man to the hospital. Police were made aware later that he owned a collection of venomous snakes and had been bitten by one of them.

Police determined that more dangerous animals could be at the location, so a search warrant was conducted to ensure there was no threat to public safety. A family member of the snake owner authorized the search.

There were 14 total snakes and one domestic cat taken by animal control. Police said they do not think there is a threat to public safety.
