FLORENCE COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — A 15-year-old is facing charges in Florence County after allegedly making threats against Lake City High School on social media, deputies said.

The Scranton teenager was arrested overnight by investigators with the Florence County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies have not released any details about the threat but said the case is not connected to an incident on Monday that led to Florence 3 Schools being mistakenly placed on a heightened alert.

The teen was taken to a South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice facility in Columbia, deputies said. A hearing is scheduled for Thursday.

Florence 3 Schools switched to an e-learning day on Tuesday out of an abundance of caution.

The teenager’s arrest comes a day after local authorities said there was confusion about a social media threat that turned out to be directed at a school in Lake City, Florida, instead. The threat led authorities in Madison County, Florida, to take a 13-year-old into custody.
