MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — A 31-year-old man is facing two counts of felony DUI after a June crash that killed two people in Myrtle Beach, according to arrest warrants obtained by News13.

Gabriel Hernandez Mejia was charged with two counts of felony DUI resulting in death. He was booked into the J. Reuben Long Detention Center on Monday, where he remains in jail as of this writing on a $2 million bond.

Thanh Nguyen, 27, and Ha Quang, then 37, died in the crash, Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard said. Both were from Myrtle Beach.

Myrtle Beach police responded at about 2:35 a.m. on June 9 for a crash in the area of Highway 501 and Seaboard Street, according to an incident report. Officers found a Honda Civic in a ditch and a GMC Sierra down the road.

After an investigation, authorities learned that Hernandez Mejia’s GMC Sierra sped through a red light, hitting the Honda Civic as a result, according to arrest warrants. Nguyen died at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center shortly after the crash, while Quang died on June 22.

Hernandez Mejia had a blood alcohol content level of .11, the warrant shows. The legal limit is .08.
