YORK COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM)– A Latta man is facing charges following the York County crash that hospitalized seven people and led to a fetal death.

York City Police responded to a crash between a Hyundai and a Honda at the intersection of North Sherman and East Philadelphia Street at 6:53 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 8.

According to an affidavit, the driver of the Hyundai, Jaheim Alford, 22, knowingly attempted to harm the passengers of his vehicle prior to the crash.

Passengers inside the Hyundai said Alford and his girlfriend had been in a verbal dispute in an apartment and that Alford had smoked marijuana prior to the crash.

Witnesses claim Alford was acting “weird” and angry as he drove, with one claiming she feared for her life because of the speed. As they approached a red light at the intersection, passengers urged Alford to slow down, to which he responded by putting the car into sport mode, increasing the speed, and allegedly saying, “I am going to kill everyone in the car.”

Alford accelerated through the intersection, resulting in a collision that hospitalized all four people in the Hyundai and three people, including an infant, in the Odyssey, according to the affidavit.

The victims suffered varying degrees of injuries that included admission to the ICU and intubation. The coroner’s office says the fetal death occurred on Sunday at WellSpan York Hospital and that autopsy results are pending.

Alford is facing charges including attempted criminal homicide, aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person, and aggravated assault by driving. He’s being held in the York County Prison on $250,000 bail.
