16-year-old caught with gun on Marion High School grounds

MARION COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — A 16-year-old brought an unloaded weapon and magazine with ammunition onto Marion High School grounds Wednesday morning, officials said.

A Marion County sheriff’s deputy noticed the teen “behaving suspiciously” inside a vehicle and alerted school administrators, a news release said.

The juvenile faces charges of possession of a weapon on school grounds and unlawful carrying of a firearm and was transported to the state Department of Juvenile Justice.

“The Marion County Sheriff’s Office has a zero-tolerance policy for weapons on school grounds. I commend my deputies who were keeping vigilant their quick response,” Sheriff Brian Wallace said in a statement.
