CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A homicide investigation is underway in southwest Charlotte after remains were found, said Charlotte-Mecklenburg’s Homicide and Missing Person’s Units.

Officials say on Sept. 4, the family of 15-year-old Anthony Smith reported him missing and police began searching for him.

On Tuesday, the unit responded to the 600 block of Silverleaf Road as part of the investigation, where they located human remains. The Homicide Unit responded to investigate as the remains were transported to the NC Medical Examiner’s Office.

The remains were positively identified as Anthony Smith’s on Wednesday. It was determined that Smith died from a gunshot wound, and his death has been ruled a homicide.

    The investigation is ongoing.
