FLORENCE, S.C. (WBTW) — A Florence County man is facing charges after allegedly shooting a woman in the leg after they exchanged text messages about their young son, a police report said.

Devonte Myers, 29, of Kingstree, is charged with attempted murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and possession of a firearm by person convicted of violent felony, according to Florence County Detention Center records. He is being held in the detention center without bond.

The shooting happened on Sept. 1 at a home on W. Marion Street in Florence when the woman told police that Myers shot her once in the leg with a handgun after driving to her house. The woman told officers that she believes Myers has a personality disorder and that she was afraid that their son might also have the same condition.

She told officers she believed the shooting happened because she confronted Myers about her concerns.
