New Conway Medical Center facility opens Monday

CONWAY, S.C. (WBTW) — A brand-new Conway Medical Center site located in the Gateway Plaza beside the GameStop on Church Street in the city will hold its grand opening Monday.

While the original plans had the building set to open in spring 2023, construction got pushed back about a year due to COVID-19.

Chief Medical Officer Paul Richardson said they’ve wanted to put a big office in Conway for years. The $5 million investment brought in 19 new full-time jobs and is 15,000 square-feet.

Richardson said it’s all about meeting the needs of the community. The new facility will offer primary care, specialty medicine, pulmonary and sleep medicine, CT scans, ultrasounds and more.

“We need primary care, we need specialty medicine, we need the whole 9 yards,” Richardson said. “So really, this is our way to address that. Because we know not only are we going towards the beach, but we’re going in western Horry County as well.”

Richardson said he’s proud of the work that has been done.

“Walking around this place, you can just tell everything’s new, all of the equipment is new. We’re just really proud of the work that’s been done here,” he said. “To us, this is just furthering our commitment to this community. We’ve been around almost 100 years.”

Richardson said he’s happy to bring care to patients closer to home.

“Today, that’s the name of the game, is access to care. Folks with medical services close to where they live, and this is us bringing it to them,” he said. “And CMC is my hospital, CMC is your hospital, that’s not just a slogan, and that means something to us.”

Richardson said he can earn people’s business by putting top-quality, world-class healthcare in the communities where people need them.
