HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — Petey’s Pup Rides, a local pet service, recently celebrated its one year anniversary and is looking to open a storefront on the Grand Strand.

Owner Karola Richardson is known in Surfside Beach and Murrells Inlet for driving her unique golf cart with a few pets on-board. She says her mission is to get dogs outside and active.

She knows life gets busy for many pet parents, so her and her daughter, Krista, wanted to fill a need the community was looking for.

They offer anything from field trip rides on her golf cart, to walks, and even boarding. Richardson says they stay busy, doing about 12 to 15 trips a day.

Richardson says that once they expand to a storefront, they would like to have an outside area for an obstacle course and a pool.

“We’re working outside of our homes. So we need a building, that is absolutely what’s next. Our clients are ready for us to have a building,” Richardson said. “We’re ready for us to have a building. It’s been a little bit, we’ve been looking, as you know, but it’s been a little bit challenging. We need the appropriate zoning. We need the appropriate building.”

Richardson’s hope is that they can open a facility somewhere in the South Strand area between Surfside Beach and Murrells Inlet.

”Here we are, we’re sort of like the anti-kennel facility,” Richardson said. “We’re all about getting dogs outside and I mean, they’re animals, they prefer to be outside.”
