ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WSPA) – Minnesota Governor and vice presidential candidate Tim Walz will be in Asheville on Tuesday as part of a two-day stint campaigning in North Carolina and Georgia.

Walz is making his first solo visit into the Tar Heel state since being named as running made for Kamala Harris.

Walz will begin his trek through the area with an event in Macon on Tuesday morning, then appear at events in Atlanta before heading to Asheville.

Walz is expected to speak at a rally in Asheville at 4:30 p.m. He will be joined by North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper at the event.

North Carolina is seen as a key state by the Harris and Donald Trump campaigns, and the race between the two appears to be tightening.

Before Harris replaced Joe Biden as the Democratic nominee, Trump led the state by more than six points, according to 538.com, which tracks election polling data across the country.

As of Friday, Harris and Trump were nearly tied in the state, according to 538. With just over 50 days until the 2024 election, both parties will be pushing to earn the state’s 16 electoral votes.

The Harris campaign hasn’t said yet where the Tuesday rally will be. We will update this story as more information becomes available.
