MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) – Good Sunday everyone. A pretty busy 72 hours coming up for the area. Scattered showers and thunderstorms possible throughout the day today. The majority of the action should remain closer to the coastal areas. Some areas could see several showers and storms today. As we get into the Pee Dee showers and storms are possible, but less likely than our coastal communities. It will be warm and humid today. Highs will be near 80 at the coast, low 80s inland. We have a high risk of rip currents today along the Grand Strand from Horry to Georgetown counties. There is also a high surf advisory, meaning waves near the shore could be 3-6ft.

As we get into Sunday night through Tuesday. We are watching for the potential of a low pressure system to develop on a stalled front. This low could gain some tropical characteristics. The National Hurricane Center has a 50% chance of develop. As this low pressure system moves over the warm Gulf stream, this is where we could see it turn into a tropical system. Needless to say tropical or not, the impacts will be the same. The question is, who sees the impacts. The landfall of this low could happen near Charleston all the way up to Cape Lookout, NC. So that is the big question right now, that can not be answered. As the model suites continue to disagree on landfall. A flash flood watch has been issued for the viewing area for Monday, as we could see between 2- 6″ of rainfall. Gusty winds are also possible on Monday. We could see some wind gusts up to 40 mph.

Once the system passes on Tuesday evening, we will start to see conditions improve over the midweek timeframe. We will see sunny skies move into the area, high temperatures will be in the mid 80s at the coast and mid to upper 80s. The next chance of rain will come towards the end of the week Friday night to Saturday.
