GEORGETOWN COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – Two Connecticut residents were arrested Monday after they were caught with drugs in the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office parking lot, sheriffs said.

Deputies observed Amanda Jean Williams, 39, and Kirk Frew, 55, attempting to ingest illegal drugs in their vehicle that was parked outside of the sheriff’s office.

A search of the vehicle uncovered suspected methamphetamine and a large quantity of copper wire, some of which had already been stripped for sale.

The vehicle’s license plate was determined to be stolen from Virginia, and deputies recovered a South Carolina tag, the status of which is still under investigation.

The two suspects claimed they were at the sheriff’s office to meet someone who offered to help them obtain a permit to haul metals, deputies said.

Williams and Frew are facing charges of possession of methamphetamine, transport of non-ferrous metals, and possession of a stolen license plate.

Further charges may be pending as the investigation continues.
