North Myrtle Beach council OKs first reading of Cintas warehouse ordinance

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, (WBTW) — North Myrtle Beach leaders approved the first reading of an ordinance Monday night that would allow developers to move forward with plans for a new 24,000-square-foot Cintas distribution center.

The combination warehouse and office building would be on 3.84 acres at the corner of Hunt Club and Water Tower roads. It would include 70 parking spaces in the front of the building for employees and customers and 35 spaces in the rear for delivery and truck access.

City leaders approved the first reading of the ordinance despite some concerns about the overall appearance of the building’s facade. Changes will need to be made before the second reading of the ordinance.

The city’s Planning Commission last month recommended approval of the project with several revisions, saying that it did not meet the standards of surrounding industrial properties such as the Palmetto Coast Industrial Park.

“I agree with our Planning Department,” Mayor Marilyn Hatley said. “I think that this building needs some lipstick on it. It looks terrible.”

Separately, council members also approved the first reading of an amended ordinance that would require the developer to pay the city nearly $35,000 for improvements to Water Tower Road.

The Ohio-based Cintas Corporation provides a wide range of products and services to businesses, including uniforms, mats, mops, and cleaning and restroom supplies.
