    14-year-old killed, 1 wounded in overnight shooting at Florence County apartments

    JOHNSONVILLE, S.C. (WBTW) — A 14-year-old was killed and another wounded in a shooting overnight at the Liberty Street Apartments in Johnsonville, according to the Florence County Sheriff’s Office.

    Jakari Doctor of Johnsonville. died at an area hospital after the shooting, Coroner Keith von Lutcken said. An autopsy is scheduled for Friday morning at the Medical University of South Carolina.

    He was a student in the Florence 5 School District.

    “We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of one of our students. Our hearts go out to the family and friends affected by this devastating event,” the district said on Facebook. “Counselors and support services will be available to all students, staff and families during this difficult time. Thank you for your understanding and compassion as we come together as a community in grief.”

    Deputies initially were called shortly after midnight to investigate a shooting with victims on Deerfield Road near Johnsonville, but they later learned that the shooting took place at the Liberty Street Apartments in Johnsonville.

    Deputies said Wednesday morning that Doctor died and the other person was still being treated, but von Lutcken said that person is expected to recover.

    The incident remains under investigation, and no additional information was immediately available.

Anonymous tips can also be provided by calling Crime Stoppers of the Pee Dee at 888-CRIME-SC. A reward of up to $1,000.00 is available from Crime Stoppers for information that leads to an arrest.
